Answer to India's water problem is integrated water resources management. Planned water consumption as per availability is the only way we can approach the situation.While long term solutions can be thought of and is in pipeline short term solutions are necessary for immediate issues Sanitation is one such issue and a major water consuming activity where alternates to flushing has to be identified and propagated. Water less toilets and bio toilets are emerging but yet to be popular. Water recycling in urban areas can solve the issue to some extend.Water efficient methodologies are still to be worked out . BIS is in the process of developing technologies for water efficient methodologies.
