Dear Reza
Basically, activated carbon is used to dechlorinate water from residual chlorine ahead of the RO membrane in addition to adsorp some organic matters.
However, it should be known that backwashing the activated carbon filter should be based on the TOC in the filtered water rathar than to be on time basis since the media might be saturated with the organic material .
This should be determined in the commissioning & operation period.
