This seems a rethorical question because "the" usual answer is known. However this question relates largely to the traditional nuclear and fossil fuel based thermal power generation wasting up to 2/3 of the fuel energy to evaporate water as to dissipate unused thermal energy in cooling towers and blowdown. Fortunately there are far more efficient and sustainable energy alternatives that don't waste water: solar, wind, biogas, geothermal, ...
