Yes the website of esri has all the good details http://webhelp.esri.com/arcgisdesktop/9.3/pdf/ArcCatalog_Tutorial.pdf Tou will not need manual if you read it. Cheers!!

You need to just read the esri website on arcgis, you don't need the catalog then. Or the link Andrew has given is perfect..
