Freely available remote sensing data and GIS datasets

One of the biggest issues with setting up a spatial project is to get base data to work with. I thought it would be helpful for forum members if we could list good sources of freely available datasets, I will start by listing some of the best links that I have found.

Landsat 8 Data from the USGS. http://landsat.usgs.gov/LDCM_Landsat8.php

Land cover data including elevation from Global Land Cover Facility: http://www.landcover.org/data/

An extensive listing of free GIS data covering most countries by Robin Wilson: http://freegisdata.rtwilson.com/

HI Thomas, I would recommend using open source Quantum GIS (QGIS). http://hub.qgis.org/ http://hub.qgis.org/projects/quantum-gis/wiki/How_do_I_do_that_in_QGIS There are tonnes of youtube introdoctory QGIS on how to make maps. e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-tFlQPHhEk
