Water related conflicts are ...

Water related conflicts are projected to gain a steep rise within next five years. Astonishingly , the advanced countries would be feeling the impact the most. Fresh water resources are being pulled towards main urban areas in one way or the other. Non Revenue water is more to be found in those parts. On the other hand water for agriculture is getting costlier resulting in a shift of investment from agriculture to other sectors. I agree with Hafsa that the issue is very complex and the demand for water is increasing. Population growth does show its bite on the natural resources and especially when smarter means to fulfill the resources are not taken in time. My past experience with the EPA and Water Resource Management revealed a great imbalance of water sent from rivers to the sea and water coming back from the sea ( in the form of rains ). That I believe was due to mass change in land uses. We did develop a water sharing model in the remote , water hungry rural area of sindh and it was quite successful and still in practice. We have to offer water conflict management committees or groups and commercialise even rain water. For every drop used there has to be atleast an "appreciation" for the ecological factors if some one is not ready to pay.
