I work with International Development Enterprises India (IDEI), it is promoting low cost drip irrigation, sprinklers, water storage bags to reduce the irrigation water requirement. It is possible through biotechnology to develop plants that need less water but there is a lot of potential to reduce the quantum of water needed for irrigation in a country through use of efficient micro-irrigation technologies.
