Quite a good topic you've started here Amon. I have been discussing a similar issue for some days now from the past week and the situation seems to be more severe in the urban centres due to the life-style of its inhabitants. From the food they eat to the waste generated from the variegated array of activities they are involved with. Most of the governments have not tackled this issue pragmatically whereby it is required. If we will desire a hygienic and well sanitized environment for us and our children in the future, then something stringent will have to be done. This is where the role of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) come in to ensure that appropriate policies and frameworks are in place to address the issue of waste management and to go further to ensure that these policies and frameworks are implemented. This can be done through consistent advocacy to relevant authorities and where necessary pressure since they (CSOs) serve as the voice of the people. Their role could also be in the aspect of mobilizing resources where necessary to fund such systems through the various bodies responsible.

Charles, Thanks for your comment, however we need a lot of an input on the issue since as an organisation we are at the hem of addressing such issues critically. Hence issues of financial resources seem to be a limiting factor while the governments taking advantage of the situation. There is need to put collaborated efforts to address the challenge. Charles, What could be the IMMEDIATE intervention as CSOs?
