Many water treatment equipment suppliers can provide lime softening equipment.  My company, Evoqua Water Technologies provides various models depending on flow and requirements. A lime softener is basically a clarifier that uses lime or caustic to raise pH and add hydroxyl to precipitate calcium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide as a fluid sludge.  Solubility of the hardness ions is based on pH and alkalinity.  Silica is also reduced through adsorption into the MgOH.
