What is the approximate life span of the resins used in water softners where the water source is chlorine treated Municipal in an in home system?
life span depends on quality of cationic resins. the quality changes accoring to manufacture of resin.I had experienced that 5 years life span for Dowex softener resins under 0,5 ppm chlorine treatment. On the other hand not only chlorine effects resin charge reaction, also soluble iron and dissolved gasous (ammonia and CO2) effect the life span of resins.
