Transporting and Reusing a Waste System

Published by

A rural community of 4000 people in Central America currently has no running water and is in need of a sanitation system. The area has a shallow water table which is contaminated with human feces.

Would it be possible to transport an old already existing industrial waste system and convert it to a community waste and sewer system?

If possible, how could this best be achieved and what are the risks? Which infrastructure parts can be reused and which can't?

Dear Blodget, It is too ...

Dear Blodget,

It is too costly to transport wastewater treatment plant/system. I suggest to transport M&E equipment e.g. Pumps, blowers, telemetry, valves. While tanks can be manufactured, from steel or precast concrete walls, at the destination area. Because 4000 population tanks are too big to be transported. Plus the age of the tank could not worth transporting them.
