One of the recent trend which is rapidly evolving in intergrative watershed management system and planning is the use of citizen science approach (Little, et al, 2016). They proposed a collaborative monitoring of underground water using a community-based ground water network. The results of these applications was that valuable information about the water conditions typically the level of underground aquifers in relation to the water extraction practices were availed for public consumption especially researchers and municipal water authority. The community volunteers especillay scientists, teachers and students having been trained were able to collect and enter measurement data to a web-based designed portal for a widespread easy access. Moreover, active community participation in monitoring water resources complements governmentwide water resource monitoring and planning and nurtures community water ownership. These promotes sustainable water conservation, extraction, wastage and contamination of available water sources.
The above approach was implemented in Rocky View County of Alberta, Canada and it has proven to be adoptable by any community and municipalities provided adequate training, advocacy and motivation are conducted both by the government, water practitioners, researchers and private water providers to the targeted water consumers.

One trend in innovative water technologies is SMARTechs ; (Simple, Market-based, Affordable, Repairable Technologies)
Examples of SMARTechs are manual drilling and handpumps like EMAS or Rope pumps. An example of the potential of SMARTechs is Tanzania. 10 years ago Manual drilling and Rope pumps were introduced and now there are over 3000 handrilled tube wells and over 10.000 Rope pumps installed. The shift from Machine drilled wells and imported handpumps to these locally produced technologies reduced cost of rural water points Tanzania from 4000 to 1500 US$. The sustainability of these technologies is high since spares are low cost and locally produced. The production is sustainable since entrepreneurs make profit and will go on after projects stop.
Entrepreneurs are trained in new technologies by so called SMART Centres in a number of African countries.

Atmospheric Water Generation technology is becoming a more mainstream solution. EcoloBlue has been around since 2007, however we are seeing more and more companie jumping on the bandwagon (whether they are a direct manufacturer, or just a reseller).

Low cost, low maintenance and reliable systems for wastewater recycling and stormwater reuse. Systems that can be provided to remote and poor communities and particularly to those in developing and least developed countries.

I am CEO of a research company and we do analysis of every sector. My experience says the technology which will address the End-User Needs will top the trend. I would say
these will be the among top trends. Utilities will come with Recovery optimasiation etc but what is going to matter in the world is - The End User from the developing market.
