The World's Premier Water Leakage Summit Returns For Its 11th Year In December 2020

The Global Leakage Summit is coming to London again on 8-9 December, with pre-conference workshops on 7 December.

Join us to meet our 2020 line-up of world-class UK and international water utility speakers, who will share their experiences on how they are managing their networks to meet leakage targets while facing continuously evolving challenges - not only networks with ageing infrastructure and continual bursts, but also external pressures on network operations caused by climate change, drought and natural disasters. The latest of these, of course, is the Covid-19 pandemic, which has wreaked havoc on water utility operations, and which has put at risk the ability for water operators to meet their leakage targets.

Under the main theme of  'Innovation, Collaboration and Cooperation' , the Summit agenda will focus on issues that are crucial for addressing policies and practices for reducing leakage - both in UK and globally - over the next few years.  Highlights and discussion topics include:

  • Sharing innovation projects . All the UK Water Companies have shared their current list of more than 300 leakage innovation projects, and for the first time, we have a heat-map of company research, which is already driving collaboration and preventing duplication of effort
     
  • Fixed and mobile network monitoring . 2018-19 saw the largest roll out of in-situ acoustic loggers in the UK water industry. Two UK water companies outline how they have approached the specific challenges faced in reaching their leakage targets.  How are they addressing the skills gaps for operating a changing water network?
     
  • International case studies . Elsewhere across the globe, water utilities are facing different, and often more serious, challenges.  From coping with bushfires and long term drought in SE Australia, managing a water network in the water scarce arid region of Chile, dealing with historically high levels of leakage in Ireland, to acknowledging and addressing non-revenue water losses in Macao, water utility operators have to use all the knowledge and new technologies available to them
     
  • Smart network management - a wider view . Smart networks are getting smarter - to encompass smarter and faster technologies and software for data collection, data communication and data analysis. How can smart networks improve performance in other areas to meet Outcome Delivery Incentives (ODIs) - such as Compliance Risk Index (CRI) and interruptions to supply - as well as leakage and Per Capita Consumption (PCC)
     
  • Gen Z and beyond . Advances in technology, changes to how a network is operated, and how data are managed, will require a change in working practices.   Can the next generation (Gen Z) fill the gap in skills needs and integrate and enhance a changing workforce?
     
  • Smart pipe condition assessment.    By analysing pipe failure rates using big data leakage analytics and analysis of leak dynamics, pipe replacement is no longer related to age, but to pipe failure rate.  Can we now move from reactive to proactive when replacing pipes?
     
  • The power of IoT!    We assess the future of IoT in the water industry - from machine learning software to predict and pinpoint bursts on plastic pipes to automatic identification of leaks with permanent monitoring, and empowering customers with IoT smart metering - helping to eradicate customer side leakage
     
  • Bringing pipe repair into the digital age . What are the options for minimal disruption or non-intrusive pipe repairs? What research is being done to solve the missing link in a smart network and bring pipe repair into the digital age?
