Description

Citizens in the city of Nijmegen (The Netherlands) who live in an old monastry build themselves a community greenwater infiltration and greenwater harvesting system. It's working fine for more than two years now.

Self-activity made the project also an interesting investment towards the future price increase of drinking water. The ROI is now 8 years if the water price remains constant. But the waterprice is rising above inflation for years. It's expected that this will continue due to increasing challenges in drinking water purification so as the removal of medicines.

The amount of rain falling in heavy downpours, will continue to increase. This project helps the municipality with delayed draining by the reuse of green water or infiltration in case of overflow of the green water storage tank. The measurement data from the system is - as a citizen science project - online as open source available so that the municipality can anticipate on downpours.
