James Callegary, Hydrologist at U.S. Geological Survey

Summary

I am a hydrologist with the US Geological Survey Arizona Water Science Center. I received my doctorate from the University of Arizona in Soil and Water Science specializing in applications of geophysics to the study of groundwater recharge and movement of water in the unsaturated zone beneath ephemeral-stream channels. I have worked since 2007 with collaborative groups of US and Mexican agencies, NGO's, and universities to study transboundary aquifers and rivers along the international border. I also work with teams of scientists to study groundwater-surface-water interactions, and the effects of wildfire on hydrology and carbon and nitrogen cycling, particularly with respect to ecological restoration of watersheds and riparian areas.
