Description
Lukha River flows in Jaintia Hills region in Meghalaya, India. The river turns turquoise to sky-blue every year during winter months and the first day it turns blue, all fishes are found dead floating on the surface and from this day, no macro aquatic life has been reported. No clear-cut reason for the phenomena has been provided, coal and limestone mining along with effluents from cement industries are blamed.
I worked on to find the cause of coloration during winter months and finally found it.
