Job Description
Our Flood Risk and Hydrology team is looking for a Consultant Flood Modeller to join our team. Reporting to a Senior/Principal Engineer, you will join a team of 19 people who provide services across the whole spectrum of hydrology, flood risk, flood modelling and water environmental studies.
Because we’re such a diverse business, we can offer you variety as standard. The work within our Flood Risk and Hydrology Team can vary from river modelling, reservoir inundation modelling, surface water modelling, coastal inundation modelling, integrated catchment modelling, etc. You’ll get to work on a range of different projects for regulators, local government bodies, infrastructure providers, water companies, developers and investors.
The role will require you to visit site locations throughout the UK and the role will see you liaising with our clients. Collaborating, learning, thinking proactively and creatively forms the ethos of the team and a fundamental part of your role. In addition, your day to day activities will include:
- Resolving technical modelling issues on projects and advancing our technical expertise
- Carrying out technical reviews of hydraulic models
- Providing technical input into flood risk management and water resource projects
- Producing flood risk assessments
- Managing components of projects, taking responsibility for own personal time and potentially resource management, and coordinating team members, managing subcontractors, quality assurance and client feedback and ensuring effective communication of any changes/modifications
- Working in collaboration with other design disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall project
- Ensuring compliance with company systems in the components of the project for which you have responsibility, including drawings, reports, specifications and studies
- Support the preparation of project proposals / bids / fee estimates
- Building relationships with clients
- Gaining awareness of commercial aspects of projects (contract, budgets invoicing, client management etc.) relating to projects for which you input into
- Liaising with the Project Director or Manager and the client
- Providing input to project team, leading by example to achieve sector goals and championing a quality, innovation.
- Assisting and participating in developing yourself and other team members to their full potential
- Gaining experience of and being familiar and compliant with, relevant H&S regulations and promoting a culture of awareness within the team
Requirements
- Experience in 1D/2D fluvial modelling (e.g. experience in Flood Modeller Pro, TUFLOW, Infoworks ICM, Mike 11, Mike 21, Mike Flood)
- Skills in GIS (MapInfo or ArcGIS)
- Experience in producing flood risk assessments
- Degree in an appropriate analytical subject (Civil Engineering, Geography, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Engineering Hydrology)
- Desired: Working towards Chartered status with ICE or CIWEM
