Summary
The Health Department is seeking two(2) Environmental Health Supervisors in the Bureau of Environmental Health Protection. The Supervisor is responsible for leading all aspects of several programs including individual water supplies (wells), on-lot sewage disposal systems, and liquid waste hauling. This position manages the daily operations of programs and staff, and is responsible for supervising, evaluating, and training professional and administrative staff.
Essential Duties
- Provide leadership and direction to staff; train staff.
- Motivate and control group operations.
- Maintain technical standardization among the group.
- Prepare performance evaluations and handle disciplinary issues.
- Interpret and enforce regulations by prosecution through the courts.
- Enforce regulations.
- Perform site investigations.
- Prepare, distribute and maintain records of inspections and investigations.
- Develop and monitor the department's budget.
- Plan and evaluate the annual program.
- Educate the public.
- Develop policies and procedures.
- Compose proposed rules and regulations.
- Write Requests for Proposals for subcontracted services.
- Order supplies and equipment.
- Perform other duties, tasks and special projects, as required.
Qualifications/Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Five years of job-related experience.
- Sewage Enforcement Officer certification.
- Proven supervisory and management skills.
- Knowledge of code enforcement.
- Working knowledge of public health vectors.
- Working knowledge of environmental health principles.
- Strong public relations skills.
- Ability to interface effectively with all levels of county management.
- General understanding of fiscal planning.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Intermediate skill to use a personal computer and various software packages.
- Customer service experience.
- Ability to work independently and proceed with objectives.
- Ability to maintain confidential information and handle confidential matters.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- A valid driver's license is required.

- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the biological, physical or chemical sciences.
