DEPARTMENT PURPOSE
The City of Spokane Wastewater Department is responsible for collecting, managing and treating wastewater generated throughout our community. The department operates the Riverside Park Water Reclamation Facility which treats an average of 34 million gallons of wastewater a day. The department also operates a large, complex system of pipes and pumps that collect wastewater and, in some locations, storm water. Our services are designed to protect our local water resources, including the Spokane River and the community's sole-source aquifer.
POSITION PURPOSE
Provide responsible strategic leadership to the City's Wastewater Treatment Plant and the wastewater collections system to ensure successful operation of the City's wastewater systems.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Position is the Department head and exercises a substantial amount of independence; provides supervision and leadership to direct and indirect reports in professional, administrative, and technical positions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct operations and maintenance of the wastewater system by developing policies, procedures, objectives, and priorities;
- Provide responsible management and planning of the overall Wastewater department budget
- Supervise applicable outside consultation and construction firms
- Work with local, regional, state, and federal agencies regarding wastewater treatment, water quality and permit compliance
- Participate in treatment planning and association meetings
- Reviews and provides input concerning applicable legislative matters
Any combination equivalent to the experience and education that would likely provide the relevant knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. Generally this will include:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in engineering, wastewater technology or administration, or a related field of study directly related to the business, management, and regulatory duties of this classification; AND eight (8) years of progressively responsible professional administrative and management experience. Including four (4) years of supervisory experience.
