About the Position and Department
This position may be appointed at any level depending upon qualifications and experience.  This position is part of the Water Operations Department and reports directly to the Reclamation Plant Supervisor.  The Reclamation Plant Operator is part of a dedicated, service-oriented team where collaboration and leadership are promoted at all levels.
 
The Operations Department is responsible for the operations, maintenance and repair of all Otay Water District facilities and equipment. Facilities include pipelines, reservoirs, pump stations, lift stations, and a reclamation plant for potable water and recycled water distribution, wastewater collections, and wastewater reclamation. The Operations Department has a staff of approximately 53 employees.

Required Licenses and/or Certifications


All levels require a valid California Class "C" Driver's License and a safe driving record.

Operator I
A valid State of California Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade I Certificate issued by the Water Resources Control Board.

Operator II
A valid State of California Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade II Certificate issued by the Water Resources Control Board.

Operator III
A valid State of California Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade III Certificate issued by the Water Resources Control Board.

Minimum Experience, Education, and Training Requirements


All levels require a High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Operator I
One (1) year experience performing operation and maintenance duties at a wastewater reclamation facility; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Operator II
One (1) year experience performing operation and maintenance duties at a wastewater reclamation facility and possession of a California State Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Operator III
One (1) year experience performing operation and maintenance duties at a wastewater reclamation facility and possession of a California State Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator III; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

This position will be subject to random drug testing during employment.
This position is an hourly, non-exempt position.
Otay Water District is a Smoking, Tobacco and Nicotine Free Campus. 

All Otay Water District employees are at-will pursuant to California Water Code, Section 71362.
