About the role:
The ServiceNow Product Owner is an agile professional, essential to helping Thames Water achieve its ambition as the leading digital first utility company.
The role is integral to the new product delivery methodology currently being pioneered within the technology department. Product Owners are the key to a shift to Rapid Delivery culture across the organisation.
The Product Owner is solely responsible for the value of the product that they are building including the strategy and the prioritisation of the product roadmap. Additionally, they act as the conduit for requests between the business and the development team, translating the organisation’s needs into tangible valuable outcomes to create products that will transform the business.
They are visionaries who recognise needs and opportunities, and work in their delivery team to turn ideas into reality. The Product Owner loves technology & understands how it can solve problems for real users.
Product Owners will develop excellent relationships with all areas of Thames Water and be equally comfortable interacting with end users of the product and senior stakeholders. They will work transparently and be able to explain their prioritisation decisions in a way which makes sense to the stakeholders and protects the team.
Key Accountabilities:
- Work with the business stakeholders to set the product vision and strategy, describing real world business goals and explaining how to achieve them.
- Align business stakeholders’ expectations and the team’s efforts by agreeing a clear product roadmap.
- Listen to end users and interpret what they say.
- Provide the Delivery Team with problem statements and work with the team to create the most suitable solution to the problem.
- Ensure requirements are clearly defined and prioritised in the product backlog.
- Ensure products meet the business needs.
- Keep the team up to date on the real-world impact of their work.
- Demonstrate progress by measuring the business value created by the team.
- Champion the product – seeking to get maximum value from the effort expended.
- Collaborate with business subject matter experts in areas of deep domain knowledge.
- Promote lean working practices and focus on continuous value delivery.
- Use evidence to drive prioritisation decisions.
- Advocate change, learning and continuous improvement.
- Support agile activities such as daily team stand-ups, writing user stories, defining acceptance criteria, planning and managing the backlog.
- Effectively communicating delivery expectations.
To be successful in your application you will ideally experience in most of the following areas:
- Considerable experience working as a Product Owner with ServiceNow
- Strategic thinker who can see the big picture and ask the astute questions to drive business outcomes
- Ability to structure, frame strategic issues, identify key analytics and drive to outcome
- Developed awareness of various lean, agile delivery practices and experience of working with agile development tools.
- Experience of continuous delivery and experience in delivering in cross functional teams
- Ability to rapidly understand the business needs and environments, future trends, opportunities and constraints in any business domain.
- Experience of building effective relationships with all levels of the business including senior stakeholders
- Excellent leadership skills – demonstrating an ability to collaborate with and motivate the product development team
- Exceptional listening, communication and interpersonal skills to support teams in working towards a high functioning delivery culture
- Excellent organisation and planning skills
- Good presentation skills
