Continuous Electrodeionization (CEDI) water treatment plant

Published by

Hi

I am working about feasibility study of CEDI water treatment process for nitrate removal.

Can you share your experience and knowledge about this with me?

Continous electrode ...

Continous electrode ionization (CEDI) has been a dream of some people that has been promoted as if the dream may come true in the reality of day.  There are many dream that just don't seem to be workable for industrial applications.

When I was young and dumb, I obtained 99% ethanol by watching a small destination unit, closely monitoring the distillate temperature: Trying to achieve that on a large scale is more difficult.

Alternating ion exchange units have been successful for a very long time: they are cheap, and easy to operate.  They don't require a chemical degree to operate for years.

If you just want to write a paper about your feasibility study, go ahead.  If someone else is funding a study, a better result than just another paper should be expected.

Thank you for your suggestion

Honestly, we want to see that can we use CEDI instead of ion exchange. However, the answers show that ion exchange is better and cheaper

That is distillation not destination.  Automatic spell check is sometimes wrong.

NO3 can remove easily by anoxic and annamox, for Electro dialysis or Technology nearby I think it will be complicated.

This water is drinking water and we cannot use bacteria methods for this

Amir! If nitrate is the only component to be removed, nitrate removal ion exchange resin would be more simple, effective and reasonable.

We use “Electro-Oxidation” ...

We use “Electro-Oxidation” Technology as a Pre-Treatment to RO Systems with very Good Results   If you wish to learn more let me know as we have Proven Data

Yes we have Commercial trailer units with capacity of 1250 gpm for large volume requirements. Email me Jim.patterson@rykor.net

Electro-Oxidation technology uses DC electricity to make TDS into “precipitatant” molecules/particles < 0.005 micron size & inert. 45 Families of Oxidants & > 400+ chain reactions created from waters

Hi Amir, It's possible but ...

Hi Amir,

It's possible but not trivial one, we have 16 years experience re purifying wastewater / seawater into potable at low operating costs and zero emissions; properly it's no conventional EDI but we just use 100% renewable energy.

Hi Dear Amir Such a plant ...

Hi Dear Amir

Such a plant for the continuous process will be so expensive. As Mr.Cheraghi mentioned, this process should be done after primary water treatment, RO or deionizing with exchange resins for instance as a polishing or finishing process, otherwise, it will not be feasible at all. You can also use ultra-pure mixed bed resins such as "UCW3700 of PUROLITE" for better results. Please find the datasheet at the link below:

Dear alireza

Thank you and this information helps me a lot, but the resin you mentioned is not suitable for our project because we need nitrate removal resin

Hi Amir

we used CEDI after single pass Ro or dual pass Ro for produce of demin. water. In this case the quality of water (TDS<10ppm)is very pure and after CEDI,we have ultra pure water with conductivity 0.006 micro siemens/cm2 .
