I'd appreciate any sources or references that can provide publicly available data regarding the installed desalination plant capacities by plant, country or even region. I understand such information is available from Desal Data, who seem to operate a monopoly on the provision of such data, but I cannot afford their pricing.
If you contact International Desalination Association IDA or Global Water Inteligence they have worldwide inventory of all desalination plants Desal Data up to date. The Desalination today with 18,048 contracted plants having a total capacity of 92,060,618m3/d in over 150 countries, with the largest desalination plant in the world Ras Al-Khair in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia a hybrid thermal-membrane dual purpose plant with capacity of 1,035,000 m3/day and 2400 MW, indeed demonstrates that the global desalination and reuse community, could not be more relevant.
Thanks Leon. My whole purpose in posting this request is to avoid paying the subscription cost charged by IDA and GWI to access this data, primarily because I cannot afford it. For what year is the 92 million m3/day capacity number and is it IDA's forecast or an actual figure?
Hi Gerry, the following link has a list of 100 largest desalination plants proposed, in construction, or in operation as a function of capacity, location, source of water and estimated construction and operation dates, as of January 1, 2005 - a decade old! so not sure if it is still of interet to you.
I am not aware of such an updated source of information covering all the countries. I could offer you the information on our plants if you send me an email address. We have 12 plants we more than 1.000.000 m3/day of installed capacity in Spain.
