Maybe I can share some examples of what not to do… These pictures were taken in the Center of Petrópolis, Brazil, where the maintenance crews caused the greatest damage when they removed all shrub plants with relatively deep roots and substituted them with grass (sod), which would obviously not grow well in such steep slopes. Note that where trees exist (with deep roots), slope stability is preserved despite steep conditions. The results were to be expected, and caused extensive instability of the slopes, increased erosion, loss of greenery, and an ugly appearance!
