why you want to do this?
If you want to compare the first (1940) results and yours....you have to do it in same site...for obvious reason.
If your study has other aims....then you consider the suggestions given...
sampling should either representative eg represent the lake water as a whole.
Many contributing factors are there affecting/contributing to water quality or other aspects.
