Softening will not reduce the essential minerals from water. Softening only takes off the minerals from drinking water that cause the water to be hard, such as calcium, magnesium and iron.

Yes

The traditional Water softener strips the calcium from water and replaces it with sodium.  Alternative approaches to make 'softer' water are available but cannot technically be called water Softeners, but water conditioners.  I have a great e-book for $2 available titled 'healthy water research' not written by me but by a water nutritionist. It's a quick and easy read and I highly recommend it.  You'll never look at water the same!   give it a quick glance here:  http://stellarwatersystems.com/brochure/
