RO design to reduce fouling

Published on by

Dear experts,

In two stages RO design, if we keep the flux of both stages near together (by flux balancing methods), is that a good option to decrease the first stage fouling (lead membrane) and second stage scaling (rear membranes)?

  1. Dear Ali,

Good option but of ourse it will depend on the final parameters to reach and of course the pretreatment will be important.
We distribute a microfiltration technology used as pretreatment that does not use membranes and that can be used as a prefiltration step from the raw water in RO systems.

  2. Keeping the stage fluxes balanced is good but keeping the average system flux at the low end of the design guideline range for a certain feedwater type helps a lot. Good pretreatment is essential to prevent foulants from reaching the RO in the 1st place.  Cheers
