The San Diego County Water Authority is currently running 4 local pilots on an optical AMI solution that appears promising. The technology has proven to work, providing meter reads as advertised and identified households with leaks on the customer side of the meter. The installation time appears to be much faster and product cost should be much lower than conventional AMI. Please contact me if you would like additional information.
