I don't really actually hear about treating iron/s with microbes - Some company does treat wastewater using metal co-precipitation technologies - which is UniPure, based near L.A. (Calif). Specialised in metal removal technology. President of that company is Mike McPhee, easy going guy - maybe you can drop an email asking questions :) Their website also discuss how they use Iron to mitigate / facilitate the wastewater treatment process.
