for water quality u need to test physical, chemical and bacterial analysis of the representative samples. the results should conform to the required levels, and never should exceed the extended limits or permissible limits. physical parameters include color, odour, turbidity, and these can be observed visually. the water samples should be transported to the labs, in the shortest possible time.one liter sample would be needed for the chemical analysis and make sure the containers are well washed (thrice, last with the source water) for analysis of iron in water the samples has to be acidified (100 ml in separate containers) for bacterial analysis the samples should be collected in sterilized containers (obtained from the labs or if not from same medical shops where such containers are avaialble) and the sample should be take to the lab within 24 hours of collection. regarding soil analysis soil chemists may be asked to clarify.
