Flint mayor: Cost of lead fix could hit $1.5 billion Sorry to read of lead poisoning in Flint, Michigan, but this local news event is drawing attention to overlooked infrastructure issues for which mothers are holding local and state administrators accountable.  The estimates for remediation - ranging from millions to $1.5B - are unlikely to incorporate the uncalculable cost of legal and PR diversions for government officials.  It's a timely reminder that the health of municipal waterways are proxy for government efficiency.

It isn't an infrastructure problem, it is corrosive water. Washington DC had a somewhat similar lead problem about 15 years ago due to increased corrosivity when they shifted from free chlorine to combined chlorine. It was fixed by simply adding a few milligrams per liter of phosphate to the water. It did not cost a lot of money to do that.
