A scientific study carried out by A. Lasheras et al found that water quality had an important role on the presence and proliferation of Legionella species. Hardness salts or the presence of amoeba were associated with the presence of Legionella species but did not promote proliferation. Conversely temperature and pH were not correlated with the presence of Legionella species but did promote their proliferation. Download the full paper here
