Hi Erik -- it is strange that habit is so powerful and that using and polluting precious fresh water for transportation has become such a solid norm. CompostEra isolates the solids (feces and paper) and shrinks it naturally over time to about 1-2% of what was added. That's why we can leave it in the tank for 30-50 years and keep pathogens out of the environment. The urine passes through a filter-bed where it is processed to become nitrate and saved in a separate collection tank. The resulting fertiliser is safe and very useful since it consists of broad-spectrum plant nutrients (much better than chemical fertilizers). With both macro and micronutrients we get better tasting more nutritious fruits and vegetables. The process chamber is kept at a lower than ambient pressure which ventilates the toilet and bathroom and makes it odor-free. There is no water needed, no grid-power needed only a small fan that can be run on solar. It is very easy to keep clean. No mechanical devices that can break.
