We cannot focus only on seawater. We must see it only as one of the options in our tool bag. Firstly to focus on seawater overlooks the benefits of better management of stormwater, the opportunities for reuse and recycling on a fit for purpose basis. Secondly, to focus on energy-intensive desalination will only exacerbate the situation. The largest demand for water is coming from the increasing demand for energy. Hence more desalination more energy more water demand. The key is more efficient use of water with demand met from a variety of sources.

Stormwater recapture and reuse in arid climes is certainly a tool that should be more carefully considered. In truly arid areas though, just how much Stormwater do you really think there is?
