WASH Gap in Congo

Access to ​clean water in ​the Democratic ​Republic of ​Congo is a ​big challenge! ​

Only 32% of ​Congolese have ​access to clean ​water, water ​infrastructures ​are destroyed, ​water ​committees need ​training and ​capacity ​building. ​

Can someone ​suggest any ​conferences ​and forums ​so that we can ​improve the ​knowledge of ​our water ​operators? ​

Dear Jonas, Failure or limitations in WASH is due to supply limitation of clean water, especially with respect to microbial contamination. Even if one uses soap having good antibacterial chemicals, hands (and utensils in which food is cooked and eaten) is washed with water. This water if has pathogens, washes your good work and exposes user to same diseases! Entire Water (all uses, not limiting only to drinking) disinfection especially at the point of consumption is the key. We have technology that disinfects water without monitoring or day to day checking etc which ensures pathogen free water all the time for entire month. Hi Jonas, although your question seems to be mainly regarding the clean water supply side of things, regarding the sewage treatment aspect of WASH, we prepared a document which covers fundamental and basic framework which could maybe be useful? (It has been in several countries similar to Congo), result of over 10 years of work in the field and the kind of knowledge that every operator - regardless of system used - should have : http://www.wastewatergardens.com/pdf/WWG_InfoSheet_AboutSewageAndTreatment.pdf. For the water supply of things, good small decentralized systems are coming out which are cheap and low maintenance. I'm thinking of AguaSmart.com which is planning operation in nearby CAR/Bangui.
