I have an experience in riverine wetlands of Brahmaputra river valley in Assam , India. The water hyacinth is common aquatic weed in bil environs (Bil means lower depressional zones). In wet lands, this weed comes up and grows well and again buried there itself. Eutrification of this weed favours generation of hydrogen sulphide ,and causes sulphide injury to rice roots and also have a toxic effect on  native fishes. This is major problem in remote river islands and negelected by natives also.
