Hi Matthias, I am unsure why you do not want to consider RO, as it is becoming the norm to treat mine waters to produce potable quality water.  A company on the West Rand has been installing this type of system in the mining industry for a number of years, where available water is used and purified to potable quality, and it is provided on tap at 4C to miners working under very hot conditions.  Please check on the internet under 'Coolquench Potable Water' (trade name) to find the information
