Like to attach a comment about my Marine Pollution Bulletin paper by the "Science" journal, which give confidence about the subsurface intake/beach well technology that I prescribed for your problem in my previous message on 17th March 2021. It will motivate you to adopt this technology. By adopting this technology, you are also contributing to climate change and solving the twine problem of entrainment & impingement of marine/freshwater organisms in the cooling water intake systems. By avoiding impingement, the planktonic forms produce oxygen, contribute to our atmosphere, and enhance the capture fishery effortlessly as eggs and larvae of fishes are planktonic forms. Over my career in water ...

Over my career in water treatment, many of these no chemical approaches have come and gone.  Every time I have been asked about a new one; my response is the same. "Have the vendor supply a pay if it works trial of 180 days." They need to write the objectives and what will be achieved and the benchmarks of success. There must be at least 2 measurable KPI's. If someone claims they have an answer, let them prove it without you footing 100% of the risk for their bold claims.

The solution to your problem ...

The solution to your problem is to use filtered water for cooling, as described in my research article. Attached other article which has cost estimates for a desalination plant intake & adopting the same technology for solving your problem.

The honest short answer is ...

The honest short answer is "No'.  Here is another way to view your question. If there were a way, all of the power plants, refineries, major chemical plants round the World would already be doing so. They use hundreds of millions of dollars on cooling water chemicals each year.  If all or any of these no chemical treatment methods were cost effective, those companies would be using it.

You can go for Advanced ...

You can go for Advanced oxidation Process with Ozone and UV, If you are reusing the water to Boiler feed, it is preferably to be treated completely rather than going for AOP. If the Scaling is not a problem you can reuse the water for 3 to 4 cycles with AOP treatment and get in a new batch of water

We are also into Waste water treatments. if you require any further details you can contact me at confidentgokul@outlook.com

Most respondents have ...

Most respondents have addressed the issue of prevention of biofilm, however you also need to consider scaling. Rafael suggests side filtration which could help if you remove divalent and trivalent cations (i.e. calcium, magnesium, manganese, iron).  However it is normally more cost effective to use chemicals to improve solubility of these scale forming ions.

Hi Asanka, please take a look ...

Hi Asanka, please take a look at the solutions HPNow provides: https://www.hpnow.eu/industrial-water-treatment/

Our systems generate hydrogen peroxide directly on site (so no need to transport or handle chemicals), which breaks down into water and oxygen. Do get in touch if you want to know more: https://www.hpnow.eu/contact/

We have done several projects in which we use UV disinfection which can easiliy inactivate legionella as well as reducing biofilm by inactivating bio film producing bacteria. For more info check our website www.vgepro.com or send an mail to ruudvandeven@vgebv.nl.

Ozone does blast bacteria to bits, but ozone become highly corrosive to metals in the system.

What are you treating for? Not many choices if no chemicals.   UV but tricky. A touch of chlorine wouldn't hurt.
